Hi everyone,
I've done the AMC part 1 exam in July 09 and passed. I have also cleared IELTS. I have 3 years of work experience after my internship in Myanmar (Burma).

What are my chances of getting a supervised training position in Australia? I'm hearing so many rumours that it is now very difficult to get a supervised training position (Aus internship which is a mandatory requirement to fully register in Aus) and that they have enough graduates to fill in the internship positions available. Is this true?

Should I try a find a job first or should I prepare for AMC part 2 (there is a long waiting list)? It is quite an expensive exam and I would like to know my chances of getting a job in Aus afterwards.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Hi,
I am in a similar position and I managed to get a job as an HMO. You too will probably manage to find a job, but will be working shifts and as a reliever, which means 3 weeks here and another 2 weeks in another dept. for at least 6 months. If you manage to stick it out, you may be able to negotiate later. I found it too stressful and gave up as my family was suffering with me, plus I had only 1 year of work experience and that too quite a while ago, so I was not getting the help I needed to settle in.Having said that, most people do start off like this and make it.
As far as the oppertunities after part 2, I am not sure and I too would like to know if the chances improve after that.
The local grads start off as interns and have more support. The knew local doctors who will fill in the positions are due in 2011, so there are still positions available before that.I hope i have not contrbuted towards more confusion.

Dear Dilara,
I am registered with the victorian medical board. I managed to get into an orientation program run by a health service in melbourne. It was for 3 weeks and at the end I was offered a job. I donot see a reason why you cannot be registered in Australia. People get registered even without AMC.I hope this helps.

Hi, there,
May I know the opportunity that can be registered without AMC exam? I am an PR in Australia and have practice and medical/clinical research experience in China and Singapore.

Thank you.
Hui

Hi,
Have you thought about trying chemical pathology? They announce positions for PR holders and train you for 5 years on job. It is a good option, check it out.

Dear Dr's,

I am new to AMC forum and would need some of your valuable guidance. Hope you do not mind.

I graduated M.B.B.S in 2005 from India After that I had some personal commitments, like my son was born, and after that I am preparing for USMLE and I am currently in USA.

Recently my husband got his Permanent Residency (PR) in Australia hence I also got it.

Now we have to move in April 2010 to Australia. Can you please tell me what would be my best options for a Job ?

1. Will I get a Job with my Indian M.B.B.S degree ? May be in AON ? Is there is a web site for recruiting agencies for the same.

2. I am currently preparing for AMC part 1, and would be writing that in Aug 2010. And after that I am planning to write my IELTS. Is the prospects of getting a job good after completing AMC part 1 and IELTS, or do I need to clear AMC Part 2 as well.

3. Can I get some information on how to get a job in non-clinical specialties like microbiology , pathology etc. Do I need to write AMC for this also, or would my Indian M.B.B.S be okay with the permanent residency visa ?

4. Can M.B.B.S doctors from India get job in Area of need without writing AMC part 1 ? I mean can they get this Job, and then prepare for AMC Part1 and part 2 parallely.

5. I have almost prepared for USMLE step 1 and Step 2, using Kaplan ( 2008 ) material. Would this be on any use for AMC ? I have brought the following books for AMC prepration.
A. John Murtagh's - General Practise - 4th Edtion
B. Murgaths Patient Education - 5th Edition
C. Annotated Multiple Choice Questions - 2008 Reprinted
D. Oxford Hand book of clinical medicine - Sixth Edition
E. Oxford hand book of Clinical Specialities - Seventh Edition
F. Anthology of medical condition - 2003 Edition
G. Clinical Examination - A systematic guide to physical diagnosis - Nicholas J Talley and Simpson O'Connor - 5th Edition
H. AMC hand book of clinical assesment - 2007 Edition
I guess I can use A,B,C for AMC part -1 ( with reference to D and E ) and F , G anf H forAMC part 2 ? Please let me know if these above books, with the editions, would suffice for my prepration or is there some oher for sure ?

I aplogize for my lenghthy mail as I am bit nervous to start the prepration for this exam as I do not know any abody who has cleared these exams sucessfully.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Regards
Kadeet

Thanks a lot for all the replies.
From reading the threads on the forum, I'm starting to wonder even if I could secure a job in Australia, how competitive will I be when it comes to furthur specialist training / fellowship training / career advancements.
The future looks dim.

Once I get into the healthcare system, does it get better?
Do they give their domestic graduates priority for a fellowship training place?
