    Dear Asha Mam,
I have done my two year postgraduate diploma in pediatrics from a govt medical college recognised by MCI.Subsequently I have done my DNB from a DNB accredited private institute and during my DNB I have done thesis also. Thereafter I have done 3 yr senior residency from MCI recognised medical college. Please tell me whether I am illigible forthe post of Assistant Professor in a medical college.
  2. Assistant Professorship for DNB graduates!

    Hello Vivek,

I can understand your frustration, because according to me, if you have already worked as a Senior Resident for 3 years, after doing your DNB in Paediatrics, in an MCI-recognized college, you must be given the post of Assistant Professor, which is supposed to be an entry post in any teaching hospital, as per UGC guidelines!

MCI has refused to equate MD & DNB despite directives from MOHFW, saying that DNB graduates must have 1-2 years teaching experience after DNB, if they want to compete with an MD graduate!Since you've already worked for 3 years as a Senior resident in an MCI-recognized hospital, you're perfectly eligible for the post of Assistant Professor!

Try to contact Dr.Vikram Shetty from Bangalore as he has filed a petition on behalf of all DNB students!

    WELL,HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT IT?

FOR TEACHING POSTS IN MEDICAL COLLEGES ONLY MD/MS OR IN SUPERSPECIALITY, DM/MCH ARE APPOINTED AS PER MCI NORMS.

SO, DNB CANDIDATES CAN NEVER BECOME PROFESSORS AND EXAMINERS OF DNB. ONLY MD OR DM CAN. THEY WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE POOR RESULTS FOR DNB.

SO IF YOU WERE TO THINK THAT YOU WILL SET RIGHT THINGS IN DNB AS A DNB ......THINK.

    Friends,

    Good news for DNB candidates!
Latest Government Gazette has equated DNB with MD/MS & DNB-SS with DM/MCh for job, promotion & higher studies(Superspecialization)!

It seems MCI is above GOI, and Parliament's /President's Gazette Notification as the MCI Inspectors have refused to accept Dr with DNB even for the post of SR on 10 March 2009!!!!! Now what else they require

I'M ASTONISHED TO SEE A PREVIOUS MESSAGE BY A ?1245. IS THAT PERSON A HUMAN WITH A CLASSICAL/NORMAL BRAIN & HEART OR IS THAT PERSON IS FROM A LOWER BRAINLESS SPECIES? WHEN THAT PERSON SO RAMPANTLY QUESTIONS THE POSSIBILITY OF DNBs TO GET APPOINTED AS A TEACHER IN A TEACHING INSTITUTE AND THE POSSIBILITY OF BECOMING AN EXAMINER, THEN IT SIGNIFIES THAT HIS BRAIN IS THAT OF A LOWER SPECIES. HEY BUDDY, FIRST LEARN TO BE HUMAN FIRST, BEFORE LEARNING THE WAYS TO BECOME A SPECIALIST.
  7. It's high time that Dr.Ketan Desai, MCI Director, utilizes his accumen and resources in required honest proportions so that the whole Doctors community of India be satisfied. MCIs actions are persistently inhuman, as the PG couses that it has started decades back suffer from unnecessary differences making the whole community rise questions, not only Doctors. Everyone knows and accepts that clearing DNB is tough, whereas clearing MD/MS is mostly a cakewalk. The final exams of DNB are held at a different place/state, whereas MD/MS exams are held at the same home land. Most of the examiners for a MD/MS exams are known to the person taking the exam, whereas everything is foreign to the DNB final-exam goer. The passing % is around 10-20% for a DNB PG, whereas it is around 90-100% to MD/MS. Inspite of everything, DNBs are requesting only to treat them equally in all aspects (teaching posts, seniority, examinership etc.). For this request and despite the new Gazette notice, MCI is trying to put obstructions, so that the money banks (private Medical Colleges will be giving sustained amounts. MCI sees to it that there shouldn't be any hindrance to this.) will deliver the susained goods for them persistently.

i want information on why 3 years post MD senior residency from a MCI recognised teaching medical college is not considered equivalent to 3 years post MD expereince of an Assistant professor. A person with 3 years senior residency is equivalent to frest MD post graduate Assistant professor , MCI does not recognises it . it hampers the eligibility for Assocaite professor

Can some one update me on it and also if some one is fighting it out

    regards
    Anshu

    dear mam,
i have done my postgraduation in MSc medical physiolgy from a reputed institution, KMC, MANIPAL in 1998. from there from 1999 to 2oo1 i have teaching experience( as lecturer) in a medical college for more than 2.8 months. after that i have been selected to a govt dental institute as a lecturer, now totally i have putup more than 10 years of experience in teaching UGand PG students . and my institute is not giving me promotion giving reasons as not having phd , even for an asst professor post.

    kindly guide me the following:
    1. as i understood , a non clinical Msc medial faculty teacher with 3 years experience in a recognised college be promoted as asst professor as per mci/DCI?

2.kindly guide me to have any references of the same done in a ny other institutions.
    .

    dear Asha Maam
Now that MCI has got down to seriously thinking of making recommendations to government regarding medical education.why dont we start an email /signature campaign to incude post pg senior residency in central institutes as teaching experience to be considered for associate professor. The move will definitely help in mobilising more teachers. It is quite fruatrating that you spend three years teaching undergraduates in a central institute and also gain very good clinical experience, but this experience is just brushed off by MCI which would rather encourage a straight assitsant professorship in private medical college where the whole system is only geared to teach those five or six cases to be kept in exams and the teachers knowledege is also limited to those cases.
The new board of governors do appear committed to undo the damage caused by the entry of private sector into medical education. It is not only education that suffers but also the ongoing patient care in the private medical colleges as the the teachers also think that the subject of medicine is limited to those few exam cases. It is time that we take up the issue.
